A Ray of Sunshine.

I smelled it first.

From across the Kudzu Jungle, the light breeze carried the sweet parfume my way.

I needed a break from the hacking and loping away I had to find what plant the fragrance was coming from.

" It is the second week in January," I thought.

"What in the world could be blooming?"

I wandered about looking for color.

There it was like a ray of sunshine.

The bees found the Leatherleaf Mohonia blooming, too.

Later that night, I opened Southern Living to find this... CLICK.

But.....
Since it is sub-artic-ish for way down South today. I guess they are frozen.

Jenni,
Our overnight low temperature tonight will be -24C (-11F). No blooms to report, and definitely no bees.

S and N -That makes our 12 look like a heat wave.

Once I was in Edmonton Alberta the first week in Feb. and it was -18c. That was the coldest I have ever been.

Stay Warm.

Today it got UP to +8!

Our thermometer read -23F (-30.5C) on Thursday morning. That was the coldest I'd seen since 1996.

The flowers look beautiful. Ours are hiding under 2 feet of snow...

It made it up to -6ยบ here! My poor little hostas probably won't be seen until May (and there's more snow on the way tomorrow)!

Frost snow and frigid temperatures here and I have a cold so I couldn't smell anything anyway. I want to live somewhere warm.

You make me wonder why I live in Chicago...

Thanks for the comment on my blog. I actually have one of those plants blooming in my back yard too, not to mention my paper whites and my tea olives which all smell so wonderful. Though, with the weather, no gardening is getting done at the moment... we'll see if the plants last!

Modernemama- Hope you feel better.

Joanne- I have seen the news of the cold there. This southern girl doesn't have the clothing for that cold of weather.

Melle- Glad you could drop by. I LOVE tea olives.

We had a rough week here, too (-25 to -5 degree temps). Fortunately, we're back up to the balmy 20s and 30s as of yesterday. I can't believe--bees and blooms! I'm already counting down the weeks until spring and all the wonderful aromas that come with it!

Don't you love winter in the South! While it's been miserable in the Atlanta area over the past week, today the sun came out, and I played outside with my nephew.

Happy Birthday to you tomorrow! Thanks for stopping by the beach house!
