Fireplace Summer Covers - an Obsession.

I just can not help it. I have issues. OK.
I have a slight obsession with wonderful cast iron summer cover inserts for fireplaces.

Every time I see a great Summer Cover for a fireplace in person, I stare.
I touch the relief patterns on the cold cast iron.

While other people are actually shopping the estate sale, I am staring at summer covers.

Other people are digging in boxes for vintage Christmas decor.

I am moving boxes to get a better view of summer covers and digging out my phone to take pictures.

While other people are viewing plundering through the kitchen cabinets, I am
pulling screens away from the summer covers. They were hiding this beauty.

(Oh....and can we all swoon at that green tile. )

Then I look up and see the light fixtures.

In this house, the ceilings had been dropped, but almost every room still had original light fixtures. I need a vintage light fixture for our hall.

The house also had un-painted trim, funky shag carpet, and most of all fantastic, summer covers.

It was almost too much excitement for one day.
(Note to self. Always carry camera in purse. Cell phone pictures are bad.)

Stools at ReStore.

My heart skipped a beat, when I saw these stools at Habitat Re-Store last week.

I have been looking for 2 vintage-ish type stools to go with the stainless steel kitchen table that I received for Christmas. There was a coffee shop near my old office that had vintage lab stools at the bar and I loved how the these stools looked against the shiny stainless steel counter.

I was so sad to read on the little red tag above the ladder.

SOLD.

I was there too late. They sold earlier that day. All of them. For $10 each.

Oh and this picture was made with my cell phone. My camera died.

Sunday Walk: Places

A walk from the little town of West Point, GA,

where there are a couple of buildings that have nice detail.

This guy is kinda scary.

Have a wonderful Sunday.

Yard News.

I have been nursing these Camellias back to health for a couple of years now.

And this week, a BLOOM. YAY!
Ok....I know what you are thinking. No, it is not a pretty bloom, but I am happy considering these plants were stubs overgrown with ivy.

A couple of weeks ago, I bought this.

and these.

Now that is has warmed up a bit, maybe I can plant them in the ground.

Pretty & Ugly

The Pretty.

Finally there is a hint of spring in the air. Yay!

The UGLY.

Yep. That area on the side of the house that I have been watching, the paint has totally chipped away from the house.

I don't want to think about the paint so lets look at the flower a little more.

Let's think about sunshine and spring.

NOT paint. Nasty white paint flaking away from the side of our bungalow.

Paint chipping away where it needs to stay, for at least a little longer.

It is really strange the way it is separating from the house. Almost like it is getting wet. However, there is no moisture here. I checked and double checked. No leaky roofs. I even checked out this area one day when it was raining, and made Chris check, too.

Ideas, thoughts, suggestions. ???

Our should we all just look at flowers?
